Hidden Greece
Cape Sounion - Ikaria - Patmos - Lipsi - Kalymnos - Amorgos - Koufonisia - Iraklia - Serifos
The Dodecanese (literally ’twelve’) islands are wonderful off-the-beaten-track places – Greece at its most authentic. Add a couple of Cycladic gems and this is a delight of a cruise, on our smallest vessel.
Calling at: Cape Sounion - Ikaria - Patmos - Lipsi - Kalymnos - Amorgos - Koufonisia - Iraklia - Serifos
Your vessel: Completely renovated a few years ago, M/Y Callisto is the smallest cruising yacht in our fleet with only 17 cabins and a capacity of 34 guests. Her small size makes her the ideal vessel to get into even the smallest harbours and also means you’ll quickly get on first name terms with your fellow passengers and the crew. As with all of our vessels there is no swimming pool – who needs one when the wine dark Aegean Sea is within easy splashing distance?
Highlights:
Afternoon embarkation in Athens then sunset cocktails and welcome dinner al fresco under the stunning beauty of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.
Afternoon arrival in Ikaria, where locals live on average 10 years longer than most other people. Take an island hike followed by a dip in a thermal spring or join a local cookery class in a village house.
Patmos is a cultural delight with not one but two UNESCO World heritage sites – the Grotto and Monastery of St. John. Not to forget the lovely medieval town of Chora.
Kalymnos is the island of the sponge fishermen – check out the museum. The hiking is good and the bay at Esperidon is the southernmost fjord in Europe. We overnight here so check out the tavernas.
The tiny island of Levitha is home to one family and their animals, but they run a great restaurant. This afternoon Amorgos – a real step back in time. Overnight here but go easy on the Psimeni Raki!
An optional visit to the cliffside monastery of Chozoviotissa, built in 1088, before we cruise to Iraklia, famous for its mountain footpaths and natural beauty – it’s stunningly scenic.
BBQ lunch on board before we reach Serifos with its picture-perfect castle village. Optional winery tour or visit to the island’s ceramic studios. Farewell dinner at anchor.
Wake up in Athens then transfer to airport, or your Athens hotel if you’re taking one of our land excursions.
The elegant Motor Yacht Callisto recently joined the VARIETY CRUISES fleet and is true to her name: Elegant, classic. She was fully refit / rebuilt in 2000 and was thoroughly renovated in in 2015-16.
Imagine a place far from home that feels just like home, where the borders are delineated by the golden shores of the sea; and home is wherever the anchors drop. Imagine 170 feet of comfort, classic beauty, and safety classified by the latest International “Safety of Life at Sea” (SOLAS) standards.
