Albania is a small country located in the Balkans, stretching inland from the coastline of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. For so many years a hidden mystery, it is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists for a variety of reasons. In the first place it has a rich history, stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and friendly locals. Perhaps more importantly, costs here are around 50% of what you will pay in neighbouring countries. WORLD CLASS HERITAGE AND CULTURE
Albania has a deep and rich cultural legacy to explore, with a wealth of archaeological remains and two UNESCO World Heritage sites at Butrint and Girokaster. Both are well worth a visit, Butrint a wonderful palimpsest of human occupation since the bronze ages, Girokaster an Ottoman treasure house.
BEAUTIFUL BEACHES & BLUE WATERS – THE ALBANSKA RIVIERA
The Adriatic coast of Albania known as the ‘Albanska Riviera’ has an amazing expanse of beaches washed by crystal clear waters. You’ll find some really cosmopolitan resorts for a chill out holiday, with very reasonably priced hotels.
LAKES & MOUNTAINS
From rugged mountains and lush forests, to pristine inland rivers and lakes, the ‘great Albanian outdoors’ is one of the primary reasons for the growing tourist interest, with breathtaking natural landscapes just waiting to be explored.
HISTORIC CITIES
The capital Tirana is a vibrant city offering a blend of history, culture and urban energy with a distinctive Balkan ‘twist’. Girokaster is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a unique Ottoman flavour, as is Berat known as the ‘City of 1,000 Windows’. Kruje and Shkoder are lively typical and traditional Albanian towns.

Albania is a feast for the senses with stunning natural beauty wherever you go. It also has some fabulous history and Butrint (pictured) should really be ranked as one of the ancient and modern wonders of the world, dating back to the bronze age but occupied by just about every civilisation that existed around the Mediterranean.
